RESULT - TW0-DAY GAME
Uganda XI 127/10 & 234/7 dec
MCC 102/10 & 22/0 (washed out)
Uganda’s Emerging XI captain Lawrence Ssematimba was hoping he would push for victory but his efforts were all in vain.
Ssematimba looked on helplessly as the heavens opened with the visiting Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) needing 237 runs to win the two-day game at Kyambogo Oval yesterday.
“We were going for victory,” said Ssematimba after umpires Neil Bainton and Baker Elonge called off the match citing bad light. “I know they were going to play for a draw. But my bowlers were pumped up to prize them out.
“But I am delighted we played good cricket especially in our second innings.”
Before the downpour, Patrick Ochan had put the English bowlers to the sword with a quick fire 60 off 23 after Hamza Saleh’s 43 at the top as Uganda declared at 234 for 7 with a lead of 259 runs.
The MCC, who were bundled out for 102 in the first innings thanks to opening bowlers Farouk Ochimi and Ochan (six wickets), had started the second innings with intent reaching 22 for no loss after four overs. If the rain hadn’t come down, Uganda had to pick 10 wickets in an estimated 31 overs for a memorable win.
