In Summary
Cricket. Last year, Franklyn Najjumba, Mary Nanderenga and Barbara Mukankusi made the trip under the same programme.
Flavia Laker is confident that the lessons she will learn in Benoni Cricket Academy in South Africa will not only benefit her but for the entire senior women’s national cricket team.
The Charity Trust Fund Cricket Club skipper left for South Africa yesterday morning with teammate Scovia Akello and Wanderers’ all-rounder Carol Namugenyi for a six-day camp that runs from February 8-13 in Benoni.
“There is a lot to learn,” an expectant Laker said after her training session on Thursday at Lugogo. “When we return, we will look to putting the learned skills into practice especially while playing for our country.”
Laker and Akello were named best bowler and fielder of National Women’s Cricket League last year. The trio was selected after a review of their recent international performances by Africa Cricket Association (ACA).
The academy will empower the girls with better game plans, mental preparation before the game.
