Ssematimba eager to impress selectors

KAMPALA- Speak of the men’s national cricket team, the name Lawrence Ssematimba is one of those that come up so fast.
His vast batting and wicket-keeping experience helped Uganda finish second at the ICC Africa Regional Twenty20 Qualifiers and the ICC World Cricket League Division III tournaments in Kampala and Bermuda respectively earlier this year.
He further captained the Warriors’ franchise to their maiden East African Cup title. But he was dropped and missed the recent 10-day national team tour citing indifferent form.
The 31-year-old is now eager to show his never-say-die character and impress selectors when the visiting Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) plays a two-day and two 50-Over games with Uganda’s select sides.
“I never expected to miss the South African trip,” said Ssematimba. “I have doubled my efforts in the nets and during matches.”
Ssematimba also believes no one is already certain of a place on the final teams to Dubai and New Zealand.
“There is a lot of competition and no one is a given on the team. Starting with this MCC tour, I am going to strive for good scores so that I impress the coaches and selectors. I am positive.”
