Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru is spoilt for choice when it comes to rally cars.

After cruising a Subaru N14 to third place during the Pine Ridge Mbarara Rally last month, Kikankane has opted to change machines ahead of the two-day Freedom City Challenge Rally this weekend.

Kikankane disclosed to the Daily Monitor that he will drive a Subaru N12B this weekend as he seeks his first title of the season.

“The Subaru N14 needs a complete overhaul,” Kikankane told the Daily Monitor. “After the Mbarara event and after the recce, the N12B would be the most suitable car for the event.” About the route, Kikankane said 90 percent of it was smooth save for the Competitive Section (CS) Four which covers 17.1km between Jjanda and Busiika. “It is a bit rough during the first few kilometers and towards the end,” said Kikankane.

Meanwhile, 40 drivers led by National Rally Championship (NRC) leader Ponsiano ‘Mafu Mafu’ Lwakatata beat the Saturday registration deadline.
Lwakataka is expected to open the route followed by Rwanda-based driver Christakas Fitidis (Subaru N12) and Kikankane in that order.

The event will have eight CS totaling 148.4km. The event begins with two runs (5km) of the Super Special Stage (SSS) at Garuga on Saturday. The following day drivers will cover 143.4km spread over six competitive sections.

Freedom City is the main sponsors to the tune of Shs6.5m, Ssema Properties Ltd, Byansi Roofings, Fire and Safety Appliance Ltd are the other sponsors.
