This is such a short tournament that none of the six sides can afford to slip up. Hosts Uganda have no room for error when they face off with Rwanda in their third match on Day Two of the three-day ICC Africa under-19 Girls’ Championshiop at King’s College Budo Oval this morning.
With all sides wanting the bigger piece of the cake, it is expected to be an exciting tie. “We want it (victory) more,” said Ugandan batter Lelia Namaganda, who will open the innings with Damalie Busingye. And having played them during last year’s edition in Dar-es Salaam, Namaganda believes her team can replicate similar results. “We played them twice last year and beat them convincingly. We are confident of our abilities,” added the Senior Six vacation student from Gayaza High School.
During last year’s game, Uganda brushed aside Rwanda by 44 runs. Uganda set 77 runs for the loss of six wickets and proceeded to bowl out Rwanda for a paltry 33 in 16.4 overs. Skipper Rebecca Mirembe scored 22 runs while Sharon Athoula registered figures of three wickets for five runs.
