After finishing fourth at last year’s edition in Dar-es Salaam, coach Grace Mutyagaba will be hoping his girls can take advantage and dominate the Pepsi ICC Africa U-19 Twenty20 Championship that bowls off today in Kampala.

Uganda face off with Botswana in the opener at Lugogo Oval this morning and Mutyagaba will aim for a flying start.

“We will come hard at them,” said Mutyagaba, also a Tornado wicket-keeper, ahead of the opening fixtures. “They beat us twice in Tanzania. But we are home and cannot afford to disappoint our fans.”

Left-hand batter Lelia Namaganda will be expected to give her team a flying start when she steps onto the fulcrum first.

Immaculate Nakisuyi, Gertrude Chandiru and Mary Nalule, who have had stints with senior women’s team, are also expected to play a vital role if Uganda is to win the title. Uganda face Kenya later in the evening at the university oval in Kyambogo.
