KAMPALA- The plot to halt Tornado B’s Multiple Industries Division One 50-Over League winning streak is now left at the hands of their last four opponents.
The unbeaten Jeremy Kibuukamusoke-led side defeated Wanderers by 25 runs on Sunday to script their 10 win of season.
That victory at the university oval in Kyambogo moved them closer to the title with 56 points - 19 clear of holders Tornado in second, who still have two games in hand.
“This is a commendable performance from our team,” Kibuukamusoke told Daily Monitor. “We now have 10 wins in the bag. We should be champions with two more wins.”
Tornado B’s menu is left with Charity Trust Fund, Nile, a tricky Jinja trip to face Rounders before an anticipated last clash against Tornado.
After Kibuukamusoke won the toss, opener Nicholas Kebba struck 23 before he was bowled by Wanderers’ Trevor Bukenya (2/40) after 9.4 overs. Then there was a 51-run fifth wicket stand between Fred Isabirye (43 off 71) and former national team skipper Akbar Baig (40 off 51) and Tornado B were 159-5 after 36 overs.
But after the showers, umpires Isaac Kwach and Baker Elonge revised the score and third-placed Wanderers (34) needed 144 runs from 22 overs to win. Kenyan David Obuya (2/23) ran out Arthur Ziraba (19 off 26) at 42 for 2 to leave Wanderers staring at a fourth league defeat. Sam Walusimbi’s boys ended on 118 for 9.
