In Summary
Cricket. Title holders Tornado moved to the top of Group A with 10 points after their 30-run win over KICC in Entebbe.
Wanderers skipper Denis Musali insists his team are not gunning for the National T20 League title crown but their form suggests otherwise.
Wanderers are now top of Group B with 25 points following victories over Warriors and Sardar Vallabbhai (SVPC) at Budo and Kyambogo grounds on Sunday.
“Good performances so far,” Musali said. “But its not for the title but to help groom the youngsters and give them the right mental shape for the season.”
Musali lost the toss against SVPC but his bowlers restricted them to 100 for 9.
After a no-show from the opening pair of Mitesh Patel and Mahesh Patel (both with just two runs off seven deliveries), batsman number three Hiral Patel hit 18 runs off 19 before suffering a leg before wicket (lbw) dismissal from Trevor Kapere (4/12). Santosh Fernandez, in at number five, scored 45-run-a-ball before being bowled out by Ibra Migadde (2/14).
Bhavin Patel (18 off 22) was stumped by wicket-keeper Musali off Arnold Otwani’s bowling (1/21).
Wanderers’ opening pair of Arthur Ziraba and Otwani, that had partnered to score 97 enroute winning by eight wickets in Budo early in the morning, returned to the fulcrum with a similar task to their hands. It did not last long this time round. Ziraba (16 off 22) was caught behind by Mitesh Patel off Mit Patel (1/10) after 5.3 overs.
Only 29 runs were on board. Humphrey Kayondo (29 off 35) partnered with Otwani (41 off 46) till the latter was caught by Harish Patel off Bhvavin (1/21) at 98.
It’s now five in five for coach Sam Walusimbi’s Wanderers.
