KAMPALA-Tony Odur has maintained KCCA will not take tomorrow’s opponents El Merreikh lightly when the two sides meet in the return leg of the Caf Champions League preliminary round.
The two sides face-off for the second time in a week with KCCA holding a 2-0 healthy lead but the striker, who scored the team’s second goal in Omdurman told the Daily Monitor his teammates are aware the tie is not yet done.
“People might think that because we scored two goals we played a weak team. But I am sure you will a very tough side tomorrow,” the striker said.
Odur, who was a doubt in the first leg because of an aching tooth revealed he will only visit the dentist after the game.
“I will have that sorted after the game because the pain has reduced,” added the forward who has scored has scored 10 goals in 13 appearances for his side in the domestic league.
The side, however, has yet to play a local game this year but coach George Nsimbe believes that will have little bearing on his side having played and won the Mapinduzi Invitation Cup in Zanzibar last month. “It was really competitive because we played some of the best sides in the region,” he said. In that tourney, KCCA played Zanzibar champions KMKM, which is also featuring in the Champions League as well as Tanzanian giants Simba and Azam, who are featuring in the Caf Confederations Cup.
El Merreikh had their pre-season training in Qatar that included games against Bayern Munich, Zenit St. Petersburg and Red Bull Salzburg. They have also won their opening two league games this season including a 4-0 win over Al Ahli Khartoum on Tuesday.
