Toro Golf Club (TGC)’s Adolf Muhumuza scooped the top seed rank as the grueling four-legged National Amateur Team Trials climaxed at the Palm Valley Golf Resort in Kakungulu on Sunday.

Muhumuza, a member of the national team that fired blanks last year, averaged two-over-par 76 every round for a total aggregate of 299 to push Entebbe-based Willy Kitata (307) to second spot by a marginal eight strokes.

Fort Portal-based youngsters showed resilience and stellar stamina to dominate the three-day opening event on the Uganda Golf Union (UGU) calendar with seven TGC low-handicapped stars making the grade on the final 15-man squad.

49 golfers took part in the three-day event that was hosted by the Kitante course (36 holes), Entebbe (18) before the final round was played at the Akright Kakungulu-based Palm Valley course.

Ronald Rugumayo finished fourth, Lawrence Muhenda was ninth and Titus Okwang finished in the top 10. Veteran George Kituku (12th), Joseph Kinywai (13th) and Joseph Mawejje (15th) also made the grade on the new-look national amateur team that will compete for honours this year.

Hard working Yasin Boy of Arua was the surprise package of the lot having finished 14th with an aggregate of 325.
