150 golfers for 49th Kenya Day celebrations

In Summary

The tournament is being held to celebrate Kenya’s 49th Independence Anniversary and is a lead up to an even bigger event to be held next year to celebrate the Golden Jubilee.

The par-72 Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Kitante course and clubhouse will be painted black, red and green today as the golfers take part in the Kenya Day Golf Tournament in commemoration of the country’s 49th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

Lesmart Limited’s Sammy Migunda, the organisers of the event and Martin Abuya, the tournament director, saluted the sponsors who made certain of the showpiece’s revival. “We have so many sponsors who have generously offered for this event,” said Migunda. “We last held the Kenya Day in 2009 and will look to make it a permanent fixture. At least 150 golfers will be in the fray.” The tournament will be played in stableford format and will tee off at 12 pm with the Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda retired Major Gen. Geoffrey Okanga fittingly presiding over as the chief guest.
