Anguyo takes three-shot lead at Castle Lite Entebbe Open

KAMPALA.

Towering professional Dennis Anguyo virtually ‘burnt down’ the challenging par-71 Entebbe Golf Club (EGC) course with a round of four-under-par 67 to take a three-shot lead in the professionals’ category of eighth edition of the Castle Lite Entebbe Open yesterday.

Anguyo started his round with intent before the heavens opened to ensure he will have a lion’s share of the Shs10m staked by the sponsors – Castle Lite – with a flurry of birdies on the first nine at hole No.1, 4 and 6.
He continued to shine on the back nine with a quartet of more birdies on No. 12, 15, 17 and 18.

The Jinja-born but Kampala-based golfer’s round included two sensational two-club shifts on No.6 and 12 despite a trio of bogeys on the par-3 No.8, par-4 No.5 and par-3 No.16.

“My strategy was simple,” said Anguyo, who tees off alongside Fred Wanzala, Phillip Kasozi and Herman Mutawe in today’s pressure group at 10.50am.

“I went for safety first off the tee and it worked. I will look to do the same in the final round and then victory will be mine. I am going to concentrate on playing the course and not people.”

Wanzala, who has enjoyed a rich vein of form and earned the moniker businessman, finished day in second place after shooting 70.

Phillip Kasozi (71) and the pair of exciting Vincent ‘Araali’ Byamukama and hard-working Herman Mutawe (73 apiece) also still have leader Anguyo in sight.

The country’s top amateurs enter the fray this morning to compete for the gross winner’s gong whereas the subsidiary category plays on Saturday in the Shs70m Castle Lite-sponsored event.
