Golf resurrects in Kabale

There is a new dawn for Kabale Sports Club and its golfing fraternity. With the repairs on the course done and a new club captain John Bosco Tumusiime elected, the good times are destined to return to arguably the most challenging par-69 9-hole golf course in Uganda.

Fifteen professionals and a full house of amateurs will be in the fray today to compete in the John Ngorogoza Memorial Tournament that has been facilitated by Kigezi Highland Tea to a tune of Shs10m.

The sponsorship has been boosted by AH Consulting Ltd and MS Logistics, who have raised an additional Shs3m for the professionals category. Kabale-born top amateur Rogers Byaruhanga, who won the 2011 Uganda Open, is expected to lead the field while in the professional category 2010 Uganda Open champion Brian Mwesigwa, who has been helping with the course keeping for the last couple of months, is favourite to win. The once cherished golf course went for years without a tournament but Tumusiime’s new era has attracted back sponsors and 2013 could witness a return to full normalcy.
