KAMPALA.

Although the Kenya Day Golf Tournament is a largely a fun event, this year’s showpiece will have a twist to it.
Many of the golfers that will tee off on December 10 at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Kitante course will be anxious to end their winless spells this season whereas others will be seeking to end their golfing seasons on a high at one of the annual high profile events.

Now in its eighth edition, the event also held to celebrate Kenya’s Independence Anniversary (it will be the 53rd this year) has always produced competitive winners as justified last year.

Isaac Kisembo (h/c 7) and Monica Ntege tallied 38 and 36 points to notch the overall men and women’s titles respectively.

“We always set out to have fun,” Tournament Organiser Sammy Migunda of Lesmart Ltd said at the media launch on Tuesday.
“But you cannot rule out the competition element as many golfers want to win the fabulous prizes at stake. We also have a galaxy of sponsors offering many attractive prizes.

Among them is Brand Kenya, who want to promote the nation, Bageine & Company, Case Medical and East African Breweries among others. But Multiple Industries remain our main sponsors.” The Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda Major General (RTD) Geoffrey Okanga will be the chief guest and officially tee off the event at 7am.

According to Migunda, 160 golfers are expected in the fray on a day that will have a Kenya theme with a Nyama Choma Zone on the course at Hole No.14 and Jazz Maestro Myko Ouma entertaining revelers at the 19th hole.
