KAMPALA.

Expatriate Xiang Ming and Annette Kiconco earned their first major titles by taking home overall gongs at the St. Augustine International University-sponsored Captain’s Bell Golf Tournament at the par-72 Kitante course on Saturday night.

Ming and Kiconco shot 71 and 70 nett respectively to leave a field of more than 150 golfers in their wake.

Ming defeated Kitante-stalwart Gerald Kabuyue on countback to scoop the men’s title whereas 22-handicapper Kiconco played her best-ever competitive round of 70 nett to beat her closest challenger Monica Ntege (75) by four strokes.

“It was a surprising round of golf for me,” said Kiconco, who enjoyed four pars on the front nine and two at the back. “I am shocked I could play like this in the rain. Now I know my handicap is going to be cut.”
