Despite being assured of silverware, the pair is not popping the champagne bottle yet. They have promised to yet.
They can afford to stay award from the season-ending Orange/Castle Lite Mug of Mugs, turn up late in the evening at the 19th hole for the awards ceremony and still be crowned 2013 Entebbe champions for their respective categories.
A win for any of their rivals is worth 80 points yet Ivan Mwebaze (642) and Irene Nakalembe (542.5) are unreachable as their next challengers are 297 and 147 points off the pace respectively. Such is the comfort zone leaderboard leaders Mwebaze (men) and Nakalembe (ladies) find themselves in.
Despite being assured of silverware, the pair is not popping the champagne bottle, just not yet.
“I will play,” said Nakalembe, a six-handicapper, who also won overall honours in the month of January (68 nett), March (75) and September (75). “I want to win with a bigger margin and also notch the Danny Nkata Memorial Trophy.”
For the last five years, every December Mug has been dedicated to Nkata (RIP), the man who designed the Entebbe championship course.
Mwebaze’s chase for silverware will face a test from Edwin Tabaro and Joseph Galiwango.
The trio are without doubt the most improved golfers in Entebbe as they have lowered their handicaps by more than nine strokes this year.
EGC vice-captain Edwin Tumusiime disclosed that 150 golfers are expected in the fray and there will be a fireworks display to usher the golfers into the festive season.
Moses ‘Golola’ Ssebugwawo and Maxi Byenkya are the defending champions.
