Nothing whets Flavia Namakula’s appetite more than winning. Once she said; “I will do anything to keep winning.” But apparently she has won almost anything that there is on the local golf scene. And like any extraordinary player, she has gotten out of her comfort zone.
Namakula, the golfing soldier with a Corporal rank, has set out to shoot the skies by heading to Dubai to test the unchartered territory when she plays in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters scheduled for December 2 – 8 at the Emirates Golf Club.
“I leave for UAE tomorrow with Peter Sunday,” said Namakula. “It is going to be an interesting challenge. But it wouldn’t be possible without MTN who have offered me more than $5195 (an estimated Shs13.8m) to make this dream become a reality.”
While in Dubai, Namakula will try to kill two birds with one stone thus keep Uganda’s flag flying high and turn professional. “I want to make the cut and turn professional because it will help me secure more sponsors. I will also have kept Uganda shining on the world map,” added the handicap two golfer.
The tournament has a prize money of €500,000 (Shs1.7b) but Namakula refrained from talking about cash awards but expressed her delight in sharing the grand stage with world stars including Michelle Wie, Seo Hee-Kyung and defending champion Alexis Thompson.
