Namakula tees off at Omega Masters

In Summary

Golf. The Ugandan ace makes history as the first-ever African to take part in a European Tour event.

There are many unavoidable destructions that Flavia Namakula has to overcome when she starts her ‘dream come true’ campaign in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.
Namakula tees off at 6.30am on the back nine of the Emirates Golf Club’s flagship course, the challenging par-72, 7,301-yard Majlis course hoping she can keep her emotions intact as she rubs shoulders with the world’s best including Michelle Wie and Alexis Thompson.

“Everything here is beautiful,” confessed Namakula after a practice round during which she shot five-over-par 77. “The course is magnificent, the greens are like glass and there are many water hazards and bunkers. I thank MTN for enabling me come here.”

The tournament has a prize money of €500,000 (Shs1.7b) and Namakula has a chance to share some of it if she makes the cut after two rounds. The golfing soldier is literally two rounds short of fame and fortune.
