Ruparelia Foundation reward Africa Zone VI champs with Shs10m

The Ugandan team that won the Africa Zone VI Golf Championship last week yesterday received a Shs10m token from the Ruparelia Foundation

KAMPALA. The triumphant national amateur golf team made a brisk stopover at the Crane Chambers on the invitation of Sudhir Ruparelia for a congratulatory handshake yesterday.
The Amos Kamya-tutored side tallied 18.5 points to edge South Africa by one point enroute to claiming Uganda’s first Africa Zone VI Golf Championship title last Saturday at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Kitante course.

And Sudhir, together with his son Rajiv Ruparelia, also a golfer, know too well how hard it was to defeat South Africa in golf considering their detailed preparations that included tours to Europe and Argentina.
On behalf of Ruparelia Foundation, Crane Bank’s relationship manager Nemanja Kostić presented the team of nine plus coach Kamya a dummy cheque worth Shs10m.
“We are quite excited that Uganda won,” said Sudhir, who is also chairman of the Ruparelia Group of Companies.
“It is important to encourage sportsmen and reward them for distinguished service to their country. We gave $10,000 (about Shs27m then) to Stephen Kiprotich after he won the London marathon and we will continue supporting anyone who does well for the country.”

Each golfer will pocket Shs1m when the cheque matures and Kostić had some advice for the heroes of the moment.
“Hopefully you can use this money to hone your skills by buying yourselves some new golf kit,” said Kostić. From Crane Chambers, the team proceeded to Tooro Golf Club in Fort Portal, which is a home club to four of the nine players that represented Uganda, for more parties.
