South Africa lead, Uganda’s struggles continue in Zimbabwe

KAMPALA. Having failed to advance up the leaderboard yesterday, Uganda can now only pray for a fine finish as curtains close at the All-Africa Amateur Team Golf Championships (AATGC) in Zimbabwe today.
Captain Ronald Rugumayo and company were left grimacing after the nation amassed a Day Three aggregate score of 231 to tally 692 overall but the East Africa nation remained stuck at the par-72 Elephant Hills course in Victoria Falls.
Like it was on Day One and Two, Ronald Otile was still the country’s best with a second successive round of one-par 73 after picking three birdies and four bogeys on the dry course.
“It was tough,” Otile described his round. “There is no improvement,” the two-time Uganda Open champion said of his dissatisfaction.
Rugumayo and Daniel Baguma returned seven-over par 79 each whereas Ismail Mahmoud continued to struggle, his scorecard counting 87 upon return to the clubhouse. “It was too hot and windy which affected many players,” Otile stated. After Day Two on Wednesday, Uganda had made an 11-stroke improvement to move from 12th to 10th.
Uganda finished fifth at the previous AATGC held at Limuru in Kenya with Otile finishing second overall on the leaderboard then.
