Kampala- Before Entebbe Golf Club (EGC) hosted both Uganda Opens (men and women) and the Entebbe Ladies Open, the JBG Open was the pick of events at the oldest club in East Africa.
Although it has fallen in the pecking order, it still has the pomp of the olden days and nothing short of a glamorous event is expected in the 16th edition.
The two-day tournament, which teed off yesterday with 17 professionals in the mix, is famous for the most attractive prizes that accompany the winners’ trophies.
In the amateur category, which will be played under the stableford full handicap format, two-time Open champion Peter Ssendawula will be the man to beat.
With Deo Akope away in the Middle East chasing a real professional dream at the Mena Golf Tour, Vincent ‘Araali’ Byamukama, will lead Uganda’s charge against Kenyan David Odhiambo in the professionals category.
“I have not stopped working hard,” said Araali, the winner of the professionals’ category in the just-concluded Uganda Open and the Marsh Chairman’s Cup.
“Some people think I have just been lucky. But I enjoy challenges and am hungry for more.”
