Uganda Breweries to broaden wings after JW Serena Golf Open

KAMPALA- Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has over the years supported local sport. Tennis, rugby, golf, athletics and basketball have all been beneficiaries of UBL’s unending funding of sports in Uganda.

Last weekend saw UBL under their brand Johnnie Walker go all out for the inaugural Johnnie Walker Serena Golf Open, the first tournament to be played on the remodeled Lake Victoria Serena Golf course, in Kigo.

Managing Director Mark Ocitti Ongom while speaking at the awards ceremony promised that under his stewardship, they were plans to venture deeper into sports.

“Today provides a moment of immense pride for us. As you might already be aware, Uganda Breweries and local sport have been inseparable for a very long time.

“Over the last decades we have been involved in rugby under our Guinness brand, we have been involved in basketball under our Tusker Lite brand, we have been involved in tennis under our Bell brand, and we are even getting involved in soccer,” said a proud Ociiti who is also a solid handicap five golfer.

He is also used the opportunity to appreciate the new-look Lake Victoria course, rating is as the region`s best golf course.

“What a course! I am still trying to let it sink in. This place is PGA Tour-ready! Its distinctive features offer a refreshing feeling for any first time visitor, and a quick tour certainly confirms this as East and Central Africa’s finest golf course,” he added.
