KAMPALA- Still no player came close to stopping course pro Fred Wanzala on Day Two of the Johnnie Walker Golf Open at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort in Kigo yesterday.

Wanzala, call him ‘Mr know it all’ of Kigo, earned an extra shot to take his lead in the quest for the Shs25m purse to four shots after he carded four-over 76 at the par-72 course.

“I did not play well,” Wanzala told Daily Monitor.
“I had a rough time on the front nine,” he explained his round that had bogeys on holes No.3, 4, 5, 7 and double-bogey on No.6.

“My shots ended up in waters on No. 3, 5 and 6,” he grimaced. But he was gifted with birdies on holes No.2 and 9 before carding pars on the back nine.

At an aggregate score of 148 gross, Wanzala is now four shots ahead of Phillip Kasozi and Herman Mutawe.

The pair is playing like they are Siamese twins after following their identical opening rounds of 75 with 77 each yesterday to tie at 152 gross. They are not out of it yet.

The trio form the pressure group which tees-off at 11am in the final round today.

“I want to finish well. I was putting badly today (yesterday) but I look forward to going under tomorrow (today),” Wanzala added.
Only 18 players of the 36-man field made the cut in the race for the kitty presented by Johnnie Walker.
