Alon Orland holds key to MX65 title
The real threat lies in fourth-placed Alon Orland
KAMPALA. The Mountain Dew MX Championship shifts from Uganda Sports Arena, Busiika to Victoria Race Track, Garuga on Sunday for the seventh round of competition.
While bikers roar in their two wheels, drivers will compete in the third round of the National Sprint Championship at the same venue.
In the MX65cc category Jeremiah Mawanda, who has been one of the finds of the season, is in pole position for his maiden national title. He leads with 293 points, only 29 ahead of second-placed Milton Obote Akiki. But the real threat lies in fourth-placed Alon Orland, 53 pts behind.
Alon is the only rider this season who has not tested defeat. He has participated in four events and won them all. He missed the other two.
But Robert Mawanda, Jeremiah’s father, is not worried by the threat posed by Alon. Instead he is appreciating his son’s achievement this season.
“Jeremiah is 11 years only but started riding two years ago in MX65 and has made progress,” Mwanda Snr remarked. “During the 5th round in Busiika, he was voted the most improved rider in the country.”
“He has scored in each of the six rounds and that’s consistency and I hope at Garuga he continues the trend.”
Other contenders for the title are Akiki and Akena lying second and third respectively while Isabella Blick is in fifth place and out of running for the title.
