Alwi, Kikankane favoured to win UMC Rally

By JOHN BATANUDDE

KAMPALA. Hassan Alwi in a Subaru Impreza N14 is favoured to defend his UMC rally title in Fort Portal today.
Fellow competitor Aaron Nsamba discloses to Sunday Monitor after doing his recce that the rough terrain favours the Subarus because they are twisty and tight rendering the Mitsubishi Evolution X’s chances minimal.
“The routes are rough and tight. Small cars like that of Alwi and Duncan Mubiru have advantage,” he said. He pointed out the 8km, Bukuku Section that and labelled it as one that will trouble any Mitsubishi driver who will risk taking it on.

Nsamba also pointed out that the route is very technical which needs the driver to be calculative if he is to get results. “This route is not like the previous one we did in Masaka. This one has short sections which are tricky and the drivers that love pushing a lot will not get it easy. Last year it was the Subaru show piece as Alwi and Joseph Kamya won the event with Fred Wampamba in Subaru N10 coming second.
