KAMPALA.

Wycliff ‘Roll Master’ Bukenya could have harboured dreams of challenging for his maiden National Rally Championship (NRC) title.

But not anymore. After three events, he lies 11th with 50 points. He finished fourth in his last event - the Mbarara Rally on March 9.

Earlier in the season, he dropped out at the penultimate stage of the Jinja Rally and also fell out while leading at the Masaka event.

And like the common adage that goes ‘Once beaten, twice shy’, Bukenya is shifting his focus from the NRC to the three-legged National Sprints Championship, which begins with the Race to Race Sprint at Uganda Motorsports Arena in Busiika on Sunday.

“I got disappointed after failing to finish in the previous two NRC events,” said Bukenya. “My chances to win the NRC are slim but I am ready for a challenge elsewhere,” he said.

“On Sunday, I don’t care which driver I will be paired with but I just want to pick up a result that will give me a perfect foundation to the sprints’ title.” Bukenya’s quest for a perfect outing will face reality checks from top drivers including reigning national champion Jas Mangat.

Motorsport. The drivers will have two runs with a total distance of 8.54km. Entries close today.
