Formula One racing is a growing sport on the continent and particularly in Uganda.

If and when the sport becomes as popular as the traditional sports disciplines such as football, one company that will be remembered for its contribution domestically is City Tyres.

At a colourful ceremony held at the City Tyres Kisementi branch on Saturday morning, several speakers lauded the company’s offer of a fully paid trip to eight lucky customers for the November 27 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

To win, the promo run since May required City Tyres customers to buy a set of four tyres at any of the company’s outlets to stand a chance of winning the three nights -four days all-expense paid trip.

“I am certain Ferrari will win but here Pirelli and City Tyres have already won,” stated Italian Ambassador Domenico Fornara in his remarks.

This might be a small start but I am sure it will make a great impact,’’ added Formula 1 Association of Uganda (F1UG) president Solomon Kajura.

“I now have five more members. Go, and return to tell your story. I’m sure from then you’ll be part of the family,” he told the five winners chosen in the previous months.

Three more winners were chosen on the day with Monitor Publications Limited Managing Director Tony Glencross drawing Henry Bitarabe, the first winner of the day and sixth overall.
