FIA president Todt to grace Pearl Rally

KAMPALA. Jean Todt, the Federation International Automobile (FIA) president, will grace the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally scheduled for August 28th -30th.
Todt and Graham Stoker, FIA deputy president for Sport and World Motor Sport Council Member, will also attend the annual Confederations of African Countries in Motorsports (CACMS) meeting to be held two days before the Pearl rally.
“We are privileged to host the top officials governing motorsport in the world. They will also attend the Super Special Stage for the Pearl on August 28 at a venue yet to be named,” Dusman Okee, the FMU vice president told Daily Monitor.
Todt last visited Uganda in 2011 as part of his African tour. Todt, 68, was elected in office on October 23, 2009, taking over from Max Mosley.
The Frenchman enjoyed success as a co-driver with drivers like Ove Andersson, Hannu Mikkola, Timo Mäkinen, Jean-Pierre Nicolas and Guy Fréquelin.
In 1981, he withdrew from competing as a co-driver and was appointed director of racing for Peugeot Rally team.
In 1993 after his 12 outstanding years with Peugeot, Talbot Sport came to an end. He was then recruited by Luca di Montezemolo at Ferrari.
In 1995, Todt asked the Germany great Michael Schumacher to join Ferrari. As a team leader, Todt guided the German to five consecutive world championships (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004), a first in the history of Formula One.
