KAMPALA.

Domestic motorsport governing body FMU have ahead of this weekend’s Masaka SMC Challenge rally moved to bridge the gap between road users and police.

As part of their corporate social responsibility activities, the federation led by FMU president Dusman Okee yesterday was involved in a road sensitization campaign on Masaka highway ahead of the rally that starts at Pine Rdge Masaka on Saturday.

“As road users, we are many times to blame for road accidents. We therefore appeal to road users in this wet season not to over-speed,” stated Okee at Kamengo one of the several stop-overs made by the federation.

Officer in Charge of Traffic Police in Katonga Region, Fabian Betubiza reckons the move will help increase road safety on the highway notorious for many road accidents.

“It is always good to have other stakeholders involved because road users think we only flag them down when they have violated traffic rules,” he explained.

Relatedly, there could be as many as nine Mitsubishi Evo X cars popularly referred to as “Bisodde” when the SMC Challenge rally gets underway on Saturday.

Th experienced pair of Kuku Ranjit and Musa Nsubuga were last evening expecting their Mitsubishi Evo X in time for the third motorsport event of the seven-round National Rally Championship.

“We’ll use it despite the short time left to the event,” Nsubuga confirmed.

The crew, currently joint fourth will be seeking a second podium finish this season after finishing behind winners Ronald Ssebuguzi and Leon Senyange in Mbarara.

They will be joined by 42 other registered crews at the event that had Lwasa Events join as sponsors yesterday.
Sebuguzi leads the current standings after two rounds with 140 points,40 ahead of Jas Mangat with Hassan Alwi (85 points) third.
