KAMPALA- FMU are in final stages of making changes ahead of the coming motorally season.

Some of the significant changes include scrapping of the exchange of events and the order of start.

Federation of Motorsport Uganda (FMU) will post the new rules as recommended by the sporting commission. Jeff Kabagambe, deputy vice president Motorsport confirmed the pending changes in the sport. “From this season, no more swapping of events as it has been previously. Drivers will only score points in the seven rounds of NRC which also include the Pearl,” Kabagambe explained.

In the past drivers would write to FMU requesting to substitute one round of NRC and participate in a foreign rally usually on the African Rally Championship calendar.

They stood to earn 40 more points than the maximum 100 championship points awarded to each NRC race winner.

“This is only fair, as ARC carries more points than the local one,” he added.

Kabagambe also explained that top seeds will start in that order for the weekend event but in future events each of the top seed will have a chance of opening the route. “This will give each driver an opportunity to open the route.”

Kabagambe also revealed that drivers will pay for the door numbers of their choice but the Federation will retain the right of number from 1-3, he gave an example of Arthur Blick Jr who paid for No.99.

Finally, the CRC will be able to compete in 50 per cent of the route and are free to stop after achieving that. “The score points for CRC after completing 50 per cent but if they finish the event, the will score points as for NRC.”
