Ronald Ssebuguzi ended the season winning the Garuga sprint on Boxing Day and it would be a dream start for the burly driver to start the season with victory in the FMU/CBS FM Premier Sprint in Lubiri today.

The win would set him up nicely to challenge for the National Rally Champion (NRC) title that he last won four years.

At the end of last season, Ssebuguzi told Sunday Monitor that this season will be vital for him as he is targeting his third national title.

Ssebuguzi won the NRC in 2006 and 2009. “I want to be up there with my idol Charlie Lubega who won it four times (2000, 01, 02, 04),” he confessed.

However all wishes are not horses for beggars to ride as he has to beat arch rival Ponsiano Lwakataka, youngster Shafiq Ssemujju, Fred Wampamba in his new Subaru N10, Dr Ashraf Ahmed (Subaru N8), Leila Mayanja (Evo4), Edson Mungyereza (Subaru) and John Consta (Subaru N10), who are all eyeing the sprint title.

Jas Mangat, the reigning NRC winner will miss the event.
