Duncan “Kikankane” Mubiru showed that he can live with Africa’s best drivers after finishing third in the African Rally Championship (ARC) leg of the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla rally over the weekend.
Having failed to complete the rally of Tanzania last month Mubiru, driving a Subaru N12, completed the three day rally in a time of 3.09.12 one place up from his fourth place finish on day two.
There was no such luck however for the five other Ugandan crews that took part after failing complete the rally which is the fifth round of ARC.
Abdu Sempebwa, who maintained his fifth position in the ARC standings, failed to complete because of a gear box problem while Wycliffe Bukenya retired with a broken drive shaft. Albert Ofong, Wilbert Pole Pole and Geoffrey Nsamba were the other Ugandans, who took part in the rally won by Mohammed Essa.
The Zambian consequently moved to within a point of leader Gary Chaynes with the Ivorian on 76 points after finishing second. Mubiru despite finishing third did not earn ARC points having not registered for the competition.
