Masaka.

Ponsiano ‘ Mafu Mafu’ Lwakataka once again proved he can still compete with the big boys after winning the SMC Tarvan Kick Rally in Masaka yesterday.
Mafu Mafu as he is known by his army of fans propelled his ageing Subaru N8 to victory in a time 01:23:13 for his first victory since Mbarara Rally in 2013.
A delighted Mafu Mafu said: “Since my come back, I have participated in three events, dropping out twice but this time luck was on my side.
“This is one of my best wins in my career because nobody gave my ageing Subaru a chance against new and modern machines,” Lwakataka told Daily Monitor.
“All the top drivers participated, so I have proved I can still beat any one regardless of the car I drive.”
To prove his point, Lwakataka observed that he won four of the five competitive sections yesterday. He thanked his legion of fans including Masaka mogul Emma Lwasa and fellow driver Hajji Abdul Katete for contributing over Sh15m to prepare his car.
Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru and Musa Nsubuga, in a Subaru N14, came second in a time of 1:24:56 followed by fast-rising Unissan Bakunda and Umar Kakande in Evo VI.
Ronald Ssebuguzi and Leon Ssenyange registered their first finish this season coming fourth with a resurgent Susan ‘Super Lady’ Muwonge and Edmund Kyeyune in Subaru N12B fifth.
Other finishers included Arthur and Noella Blick in an Evo X, and Musa Kabega and Rogers Sserwomu.
Tarvan Kick, Hajji Abbas Mayinja, Zebra Hotel, Kasolo Foundation and Muto Hardware Masaka were the sponsors of the event.
The next event is the UMC Challenge Rally in Fort Portal on the weekend of June 1-3.
