Mangat on verge of title

Kampala- Jas Mangat will go into this weekend’s United Motorsport Africa Club (Umospoc) Independence Rally confident he can wrap up the National Rally Championship (NRC) title.
Mangat, who is seeking back to back titles, believes he has the ability to finish up the job without much fuss. “Most of the work has already been done so I will just go into the race with the aim of completing and being able to score points,” Mangat said. “There is absolutely no need for me to push the car.”
Mangat, with a 199-point advantage ahead of nearest challenger Ronald Ssebuguzi, was equally less concerned about what his rivals were planning to do for the race.
“I am only concentrating on the task ahead,” said the driver, who also confirmed he will use the Subaru N12 after the EvoX he has been driving for much of the season developed engine problems during the Mountain Gorilla Rally a fortnight ago.
Apart from 2011 champion Susan Muwonge and Wycliffe Bukenya, most top drivers are expected to take part in the rally that has attracted 35 participants.
Clerk of the course Peter Mungoma confirmed the rally, the seventh of eight calendar events, will run for 395km starting with a super special stage at Festino City in Mukono.
The rally concludes on Sunday and will cover areas of Kalagi, Kabimbiri, Namataba and Nakifuma. To stand any chance of winning the NRC title, second-placed Ronald Ssebuguzi (236 points) will be hoping that Mangat does not complete the race as was the case at the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally two weeks back.
