Shell Pearl Rally entries sent to FIA

The Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally entry list was sent to Federation of International Automobile (FIA) headquarters in Paris on Monday as a requirement for all international events. The event to be held on August 15-16 is the sixth round on the ARC calendar.
The list that has 41 drivers including eight foreigners was sent following the close of registration on Saturday. “The world governing body has to look at the entries as part of their record,” David Bitalo, the clerk of the course, told Daily Monitor yesterday.
The foreign crew is led by the current ARC leader Gary Chaynes (EvoX) from Ivory Coast and former Africa champion Mohamed Essa (Subaru N16) from Zambia, winner of the 14th edition in 2012.
Others are Giancarlo Davite ( EvoX) from Rwanda, Rajbir Singh Rai ( Subaru N16), Manvir Baryan (Subaru N16), Jaspreet Chatte (EvoX), Dennis Mwenda (Sprinter) and Chandrakat Chhabadhia (Subaru) all from Kenya.
The locals challenge will come from two-time national rally champion and winner of the event last year Jas Mangat ( EvoX).
Other big names include Ronald Ssebuguzi (Evo 1X), Duncan ‘ Kikankane’ Mubiru (Subaru N12B), Susan ‘Super Lady’ Muwonge (Subaru N12B), Charles Muhangi ( Subaru), veteran Wycliff Bukenya ( Evo IX), Chritakis Fitidis ( Subaru N10), Shafiq Ssemujju (Subaru N11) and Godfrey Lubega who is expected to unveil a new Subaru N12.
The event is sponsored by Vivo Energy to the tune of Ugsh100m, and Silver Springs Hotel who have put up a package of Ugsh82m which includes accommodation for foreign crew and officials as well as event headquarters.
The rally is expected to draw mammoth crowds in routes seeing how it is the biggest and most popular on the local calendar.
