What you need to know:

The husband-wife pair of Arthur and Noela Blick in Subaru N10 will hit the road first to be followed by Mitsubishi Evos of Kikankane/ George Ssemakula (Evo X), Ronald Ssebuguzi/ Leon Ssenyange (Evo X), Omar Mayanja/ Hussien Mukuye (Evo X) and Christakis Fitidis (Evo X) in that order. At least 35 drivers will be in the mix.

KAYUNGA.

The drivers hit the road early this morning to negotiate 168.23km of the FMU Challenge Rally spread of 11 Competitive Sections (CS) in the district of Kayunga.
The new route comes with new challenges but Cedric Buzabo the Clerk of the Course is confident the drivers will cope with the demand.

“The drivers have been used to long stretches but this time round the longest section is CS5-Nakyessa with 21.65km, which will be repeated four times.

The shortest is CS4- Bbale with 7.44km which the drivers have to do three times,” Buzabo revealed to Sunday Monitor.

“With such short sections, drivers have to be alert because of the many turns. But the advantage of the route is that it is 98 per cent closed and drivers are expected to be fast.”

Other sections are CS3-Kitimbwa with 9.90km, this one the drivers will do once, and CS6-Kitwe with 16.47km, with the crews going through three times. Speed will be the name of the game for most drivers today with championship leader Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru in Evo X warning the fans to keep off the route.

Flat out
“We are going flat out especially in corners and fans should keep off the route.
Every driver will want to engage the flying mode this weekend,” said Mubiru, who has also warned fellow competitors of his intentions. Counsel Musa Kabega is equally excited about the route.
“There is not much to choose between the top contenders. If the cars perform as expected then it is down to individual skills,” Kabega said.
