Nothing has gone right for Fortune Ssentamu in Motocross thus far this season, and his partisan fans have cut forlorn figures following his dismal performances.
But the arrival of new bike KTM, 2017 model estimated to cost Shs20m ($5,500) on Thursday might change the fortunes for him as he battles to retain the MX 85cc title for the third year running.
First things first. Ssentamu has to turn in a podium place finish during the fourth round of Mountain Dew MX championship at the Victoria Race Track Garuga today.
In the absence of Orland siblings Aviv and Stav, the 12 year-old has to tussle it out with Wazir Omar, currently leading the standings and Ben Nsumba, who has regained his competitive edge.
During the launch of the event, Maxime van Pee, Team Uganda captain emphasised the importance of Ssentamu stay competitive as he has to keep the faith of his fans.
“Fortune ( Ssentamu) is followed by droves at every event. The fans were becoming restless with their favourite rider struggling.
Now he has a chance to give them some joy,” Maxime said of the Lato Milk-sponsored Ssentamu.
It will be non-stop action in the other categories as well with William Blick and Miguel Katende resuming their rivalry in MX50 PeeWee.
Gift Ssebuguzi and Malcolm Omoding will once again try to wrestle the advantage from Isabella Blick in MX50cc Senior.
In MX65cc, Malcolm Lubega, Imran Nkurunziza, Waled Omar and Milton Akaki are the ones to watch whereas leader Aleistar Blick will be wary of his sibling Paddy Blick and rival Ali Bobo’ Omar in the MX125cc class.
