KAMPALA.

Ronald Ssebuguzi has hired Shafiq Ssemujju’s Subaru N11 for the Mbarara Rally this weekend.

Over 30 drivers are scheduled to take part in the two-day event.
Ssebuguzi currently doesn’t own a rally car after the deal to buy a Mitsubishi EvoX from Kenyan driver Jaspreet Chatthe fell through.

“I need to start the season well. All my rivals are driving and I don’t want to trail in the championship race,” the three-time NRC champion said.

Ssebuguzi expects tough competition for the NRC title going into the championship opener. “You need to get a perfect start,” he noted before acknowledging that a strong field had registered for the weekend event.

The Mbarara Rally will mark the return of Kuku Ranjit, who has been away from the sport for nine years.

Navigated by Sayed Kadri, Ranjit will drive an Evo9.

Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru (Subaru N16), Arthur Blick (Subaru N12), Christakis Fitidis (Subaru N12), Dr Ashraf Ahmed (Subaru N14), Desh Kananura (Subaru N16), Musa Kabega (Evo6), Omar Mayanja (Evo5), Leila Mayanja (Toyota RX), Polo Pole (Subaru), Peter Kakaire (Subaru N10) and Fred Wampamba (Subaru N8) are the other drivers that have registered for the event.

Rookie Rauf Essa Adam will make his rally debut in an Evo9 car, which he bought from Ssebuguzi.
The event has a total of 388km. Drivers will open with a 5km super special stage at Pineridge Bwala, Masaka on Saturday before heading to Mbarara for three competitive sections on Sunday.
