Ssentamu out to restore dented pride in MX85cc

KAMPALA.

In January during the opening round of the 2017 National Motocross Championship at the Victoria Race Track in Garuga, Fortune Ssentamu was beaten into submission in MX85cc by the Orland siblings Aviv and Stav.

He ended the day in 11th position with only 11 points and his fans left Garuga dejected and wondered if their idol will rise again. Today, during the second round of the National Championship at the same venue, Ssentamu has a perfect opportunity to put the record right in the absence of the Orland siblings. Fortune’s mum Dabella Apolot said his son trained on Friday ahead of the event.

“Ssentamu is rusty because he is in boarding school, does not practice enough, but will be ready for the challenge. We are also trying to fix the bike which gave him a lot of problems last time round,” said Apolot.

Elsewhere, fierce battles are expected in all categories with MX2 and MX125 being the highlight this time round. More fireworks have been added into the long term rivalry between Aleistar Blick and Ali ‘Bobo’ Omar with the entry of Rwanda guest rider Olivier Fietzek who has vowed to take on the pair.

“I have heard a lot about the two riders (Aleistar and ‘Bobo’) and followed them. I respect them for what they have achieved but am ready to take them on,” Olivier, who will ride a KTM 250, 2016 model told the press earlier this week.

Elsewhere, William Blick and Miguel Katende will battle in MX50cc PeeWee whereas a three -way battle is developing in MX50 Senior with Isabella Blick, Malcolm Omoding and Gift Ssebuguzi tussling for honours.

Maxime van Pee, the MX1 top rider, is expected to have stiff challenge from Asaf Natan on his new bike Yamaha 450, 2017 model with veteran Arthur Blick the other contender in that category. The event will be used as practice for the upcoming event of the East Africa MX Championship first leg due next month at Busiika. Over 80 riders are expected in Garuga today.
