Uganda MX Team for Botswana named

KAMPALA- A contingent of 20 riders of the Uganda MX team, accompanied by their parents and officials, leave on Friday aboard Ethiopian Airlines to Botswana for the 2017 FIM Africa Motocross Nations Continental Championship.

The team is captained by Maxime Van Pee, the three-time national MX1 champion.

Other stars include Fortune Ssentamu (MX85) and Orland brothers Alon (MX65), Aviv and Stav (both in MX85 category).

The continental showpiece will be held over three days in Gaborone, the capital city of the Southern African nation.

About nine countries will take part including South Africa (36 riders), Zimbabwe (24), Zambia (25), Swaziland (7), Namibia (7), Kenya (8) and a pair from DR Congo and hosts Botswana (33). A total of 168 riders will take part.

Last year in Nairobi, Uganda finished second 21 points behind Kenya who collected 618 points.  Zambia with 296 pts came third ahead South (259) and Botswana (175).

Meanwhile, the National Council of Sports (NCS) has contributed Shs5m towards the trip.
