KAMPALA. Team Uganda used numerical advantage to the maximum and dominated rivals Kenya during the first leg of the Mountain Dew FIM Central Africa Motocross Championship at the Uganda Sports Arena Busiika on Easter Sunday.
Parading over 50 riders to Kenya’s who were less than 10, Uganda will go into the second leg in Nairobi at the end of the year strong favourites to retain the regional title for the fourth year running.
However Arthur Blick Jr, the 10-time national MX champion, downplayed the numerical advantage. “The event has two legs and I’m sure that in Nairobi, the Kenyans will be at full strength as well. Mind you, last year we went with very few riders to Kenya but we won,” the veteran rider who finished second in MX1 explained.
The numerical edge aside, there were notable performance by Ugandan riders notably Gift Ssebuguzi (MX50) and Alon Orland (MX65).
The reigning regional champions put up displays that underlined why they are ready to defend the titles they won last year in the Kenyan capital.

“Winning the regional title (MX50) last year was big and this season he has won all the six heats he has competed in at Garuga and Busiika,” the burly driver said at Busiika.
“Our next step is to secure sponsorship for him that will develop his career further.”
The event which, was well attended, was sponsored by Mountain Dew, Shell Advance, Cherish Hospital, Lato Milk and Luga Properties.
