Motosport. Regional honours within touching distance for Arthur Blick-led team.

Uganda’s motocross team goes into the third and final leg of the FIM Central Africa Motocross Championship in Nairobi this weekend confident of emerging overall winners for the first time since 2009.

Uganda lead arch rivals Kenya by a massive 2,140 points following impressive displays in the previous two legs.

The team of 30 riders leaves for the Kenyan capital this morning.
“I believe this time round we have a chance against Kenya,” Uganda’s team captain Arthur Blick Junior said after receiving the national flag from Jasper Aligawesa, the National Council of Sports (NCS) general secretary, at Lugogo yesterday.

Three members of the Ugandan team; Maxime Van Pee (MX1), Fortune Ssentamu (MX50CC) and Fathu Kiggundu (MX85CC), are in contention for individual titles after they won their respective categories in the previous legs.

Blick revealed that Van Pee had recovered from a shoulder injury in time to help the team fight for overall honours.
Aligawesa implored the riders to lift the country’s flag high by winning the championship.

“You have gone as champions and the country expects you to perform like champions,” Aligawesa said.
