UPDF, Prisons take league gongs

UPDF men and Prisons ladies were crowned 2012 National Handball League champions for their respective categories at Sports Beach, Entebbe over the weekend.

UPDF finished the league with 29 points whereas Prisons had 18 points at the end of the season.

Sheilah Richardson, the president of the local handball body, urged the teams to maintain the improving standards of the game as exhibited this year during which several events have been held.

“All of us have worked hard to take handball to the next level,” said Richardson. “The increasing number of teams in the league have also helped towards making it stronger because everyone is fighting for the championship.”

The men’s league had nine teams whereas the ladies’ category had six outfits. Different individual awards were given to the top scorers, MVPs, best 8th player, best coach, attacker, defender, striker and most disciplined athlete.
