Shamim Bangi braved scorching heat to overcome Jordanian Dania Mozher Alkalili 2-0 in the Takaud-Indian Club Bahrain International Series tournament yesterday. Bangi scored 21-10, 21-15 to set up a round of 16 tie with the tournament’s second seed Saili Rane from Indian.
The Ugandan seed one’s health is however, an area of concern, according to her coach William Kabindi. The coach said the player showed some signs of malaria before the match. “We are going for a checkup in the morning (today) to find out what the problem is,” Kabindi said. Despite the ill-health, the coach said he was looking forward to today’s second game. “We have to bring our A game because we are facing a seeded opponent,” said Kabindi. Bangi (pictured middle) travelled to Bahrain after winning three titles (women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles) in the City Tyres Tamizh Sangam Badminton Open last week.
