Canada prepare for Kampala with wins in Florida

KAMPALA. Team Canada will head to Kampala for the IAAF World Cross-country Championships with some sense of optimism after bagging silverware in Florida, USA at the weekend.
The North American nation, which will be one of the first two to arrive here for the March 26 event, was the most successful nation at the NACAC Cross country Championship on Saturday.
Canada claimed three individual and two team gold medals at South Country Park in Boca Raton, Florida, USA.
Particularly in the women’s senior race, Canada’s Sasha Gollish, who is Kampala-bound, claimed the 8km title in 26:48.89.
The 2015 Pan American Games 1,500m gold champion Gollish cruised past American pair Amy Van Alstine (26:59.30) and Megan Rolland (27:03.07).
Canada will arrive in Kampala on March 22, two days after Australia jet into the Pearl of Africa.
The 41st edition of this biennial event at Kololo Independence ground is set to attract 600 participants from 60 nations.
Elsewhere Team Uganda (plus the relay team) is currently camping at the Global Sports Communication Camp in Kapchorwa under the tutelage of coach Benjamin Longiross.
