Bart Cycling Club official Douglas Ssemakula spent some time being questioned at Jinja Road Police Station after he was arrested for trying to disrupt the Uganda Cycling Association (UCA) elective assembly that saw Sam Muwonge returned unopposed as president on Sunday.
Chaos started after Ssemakula accused Muwonge and his team of being in power illegally.

“You have been in office for four years without holding an assembly,” Ssemakula charged. He also didn’t want the elections to take place.

But National Council of Sports general secretary Jasper Aligawesa dismissed Ssemakula’s claims. This didn’t go down well with Ssemakula and other delegates including Ssaka Bukenya, Douglas Makula, David Matovu, Nordin Kasoma, Frank Buyongo and Ismail Sebayinga.

They got into a verbal exchange with the other members. A physical battle later ensued. One man was hurt in the melee and rushed to hospital. Aligawesa called in the police. “We have been getting information that these people were planning to disorganise the elections,” said Aligawesa.
