Fort Portal

At a time when most government institutions are dusting sports under the carpet, Kichwamba Technical College Principal Dr Moses Twesigye-omwe is taking the opposite direction.

The former runner, who now heads the National Athletics Coaches Association, intends to make the institution a sports giant in the country. He has started by introducing inter-hostel competitions, which he hopes will unearth talented sportsmen capable of competing for leading national clubs.

“We have introduced basketball, football, netball, athletics and volleyball competitions at hostel level,” Twesogye-omwe said after officiating at the first inter-hostel mini-marathon last weekend. “If funds allow, we shall introduce more sports disciplines.” The mini-marathon that started in Fort Portal town saw Straker Hostel win in the women’s category while Mugurusi beat the other six men’s hostels.
