Dolphins stand out in Mombasa

KAMPALA. Dolphins swimmers won 37 medals and powered the club to an overall fourth position, their highest ever finish, at the Kenya Age Group and Open Shortcourse Championships that climaxed on Sunday in Mombasa.

Arnold Kisulo, Tendo Mukalazi, Adnan Kabuye, Kirabo Namutebi and Selina Katumba were some of the outstanding performers as the Kololo club won 11 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze medals.
Dolphins dominated the 200m relays (freestyle and medley) for age categories 10-11 and 12-13 years while 11 year olds Alexis Kituuka and Mercedes Mwebeiha stood out for Seals and new club Silverfin Academy respectively.
Seals fielded only eight swimmers at the championship after former coach Chisela Kanchela broke ranks with the club to start Silverfin.

Kituuka won two silver medals in the 100m butterfly and 200m IM and teamed up with Anthea Mudanye, Daya Mpeera and Ssinzi Nabatanzi for bronze in the 200m medley relay. Mudanye won one silver and two bronze medals to complete Seals’ collection.
For Silverfin, Mwebeiha, 11, won eight of the club’s 10 medals; four gold, three silvers and one bronze.
Elisha Ekirikubinza and Ann Mudanye, both of Aga Khan Academy – Mombasa, were among the medalists in the open age category.
