KAMPALA.
Naguru-based East Coast Boxing Club and Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) are headed for a straight forward battle in a two-horse race as the National Boxing Open Championship enters its final stages at Lugogo.

UDPF, who did not put up a good performance in last month’s Intermediates, sent out a resounding message, with a number of their boxers through to the quarterfinals.
East Coast’s dominance has been seen from the Novices, Intermediates and now the Open with most of their pugilists producing stunning displays.

It’s not by coincidence that East Coast is leading the table standings by 10 points, closely followed by UPDF and KCCA who are tied at seven points.

Community Aids Based Programmes (Cobap), Police and Zana are also tied on six points with Kololo and African Sport on five and four points respectively. Kampala Boxing Club have 2 points.

Action resumes tomorrow with semi-finals while finals are scheduled for Sunday.
