UFL: Gulu, Kumi Universities to lock horns today in relegation battle

KAMPALA.

Last season Gulu finished fourth, their highest ever position in the Pepsi University Football League.
That seems like a very long time with the University already standing no chance of progressing to the knockout stage despite having two group games left.
They now face Kumi University looking to avoid further embarrassment with the possibility of relegation a serious possibility.
Gulu University currently lie bottom of the table with -2 points having been deducted three points for using an ineligible player in the first round. They face Kumi University who have similarly struggled with only one point thus far.
A win therefore for Gulu will take them to third on goal difference while any other result will leave them at the bottom of the table, something that Gulu coach Ogunde Julius Komakech is keen to avoid.
“It will be very embarrassing if we are to be relegated this season having achieved that much last season. That is why this game is very important to us. We are preparing seriously and are going to Kumi looking for a win,” Komakech said.
Kumi meanwhile are seeking to recover from their 5-0 loss to UCU at Mukono over the weekend and coach Eridu John Julius is hopeful his team will finally get their first win of the season when they face Gulu.
“This is Kumi’s second season in the University Football League and we have been going through a learning curve.
Although we had a tough time at UCU, the team has been improving and I am confident that we shall do well against Gulu,” Eridu said.
